Post-Production Blogs

 Draft 1:

I started my first draft by putting all of the clips filmed into one clip which ended up being more than 4 minutes long, so I started trimming and using the cut tool to remove the unneeded portions of the raw clip. After trimming and cutting the clips, I managed to cut it down to just slightly above 2 minutes.

I think I didn't stick to my pre production too much, since a few of the shots are too long to fit into the 2 minute margin, some of the scenes when put together doesn't make sense so I decided to not include it. For instance, I have to remove the clips of Charles walking into his class since it is too long, same with the scene where he walks into class for the second day. Some of the other clips have weird lightning and most clips aren't at the right angle.

The general feedback that I got when I presented my first draft is that some of the scenes are too lengthy and some are too short, especially the scenes with the skull is too short and the clothe changing scenes are too long another feedback is that here also aren't enough horror factors yet.

Draft 2:

In my second draft, I decided to work on my sound design starting with removing most of the background noise during our filming process while maintaining dialogues. I used the DeNoise effect on Premier Pro to remove the loud background noises or try to minimise them to a point where the dialogue and diegetic sounds doesn't sound weird and low quality, but still lowering the volume of the background noise. I then search the internet for sound effects, such as eerie ambient noises, bell ringing noises, ear ringing noises and more. I also added a fade to some of the sounds to make it more smooth when transitioning between sounds. I then put in the sound tracks for each scenes, for the scenes with dialogue I decided not to put any music over it so that it is easier to hear the dialogue. I added some eerie ambience sounds and supense soundtracks to have more horror genre conventions.

Then I starts to work on the tone and color grade the scenes, for the scenes in the first day I increase the vibrance and warmth bar to make it more vibrance and colorful which will encode that this might be a  bright and welcoming movie. The second day scenes after the skull appeared in, the tone and lighting of the scenes changes, I decrease the warmth bar to make it looks colder which will create a gloomy and dark lighting therefor encoding that it is a horror movie. After working on the lighting of these scenes, I started working on the opening titles, adding transitions like the dip to black, blur effect so that it seems more professional.

Taking feedback from the first draft, I've cut down many of the unnecessary routine scenes which lowers the clip from over 2 minutes to only 1:57 minute without opening titles, this lead to me having more time to input more creative choices for my opening title.

Draft 3:

For my 3rd and final draft, I felt like there aren't much to add anymore so I decided just to add the opening credits of the director (Me) and the two actors in my opening sequence.

I finally got the recordings for Charle's mom and put that into the sound section, I also cut down the loudness of the dialogue abit.

I also filmed an additional 2 second clip, which I cutted up and put it between the final seconds of the sequence and the scenes where Charles is at school therefor this can act as some kind of warning about the cursed statue. It also

The feedback I got from my third draft is that the scenes where there is dialogue is full of background noises, you can also hears the echo and it needs to be more interesting in this scenes so that people aren't bored while watching it. What I've decided to fix for my final draft is cross cutting it with other shots from the same angle or adding extra scenes while the dialogue is rolling.
